Brief Description:

In this session we will consider some of the challenging clinical scenarios that you will encounter in the holistic care of transgender and gender non-conforming patients. How do you discuss future fertility and birth control concerns with patients who are starting hormones? How do you take into consideration co-occurring mental health issues before and during medical transition? How do you approach screening guidelines such as pap tests and mammography? We will discuss these issues and more from the perspective of current guidelines and evidence as well as sharing clinical experiences from the presenter and the attendees.

Objectives:

1) Identify gender affirming practices in primary care that treat the whole person
2) Discuss approaches to clinical challenges that arise in the care of gender diverse patients.
